Mama/Kiddo MBOY Swap-July

I'm an addict. I LOVE the Magic Ball of Yarn Swap at MDC... and this month it was even more fun because we could include one of our kids who love to knit.I did it with dd, Jaclyn who is 10 and love love loves to knit as well. We recieved LOVELY balls of yarn and fantastic goodies to go along from a very generous mama,BellaBabe and one of her children. Here are the pics of our balls before we unwrapped and all the way through to the goodies displayed. We each got 2 balls woot!! I believe the Blue and Brown colorway is Paton SWS which I ahve been totally lusting over. I actually had that very same yarn in my hands just a few days ago! I'm not exactly sure what type of yarn the cream one is but it feels glorious. I'm hoping Bellebabe posts back as to what it is so I can give it proper credit. All our goodies were awesome! We both got the cutest handmade stitch marker sets as well as Burts Bees goodness, teas and other things. I can't wait to burn the freen tea scented soy waffle candle in my burner! It smells good enough to eat.

Still Stitchin'

Tonight DD and I had our usual little sit and knit time together. I naturally spent more time helping HER knit than actually knitting myself LOL Well, not really I guess but it sure feels like it sometimes. I love it. I'm so very proud of her! She finished knitting her first sock. She used some "thick and quick" as Aimee says and it knitted up fairly quickly. It only took her about a day and a half to get it done. She used the same pattern I have been using- Indigo's Tube Sock pattern. She did an ankle sock version. Very cool.

I am working on yet another sock ( who knew...). I decided to start a new pair for my friends son. I still plan to finish the black and white match for the one I already did but I wanted to make a pair that would be more functional for the "wet sock treatment" considering I'm pretty sure that's why she asked for them. So, I finished one and I'm half done with the other. I made the cuff much longer and used way smaller needles so that my stitches came out tighter. I still used the alternate toe pattern - I know I already said it but I really like that one.Hopefully it won't rain tomorrow so that I can go to playgroup and give them to her as well as give her friend the nb pair. I'll be sure to take a picture when I'm finished tommorrow and post it.

In other news... my friend Melissa had her 2nd babe last night. Her first little guy was born 3 yrs ago @ 35 weeks. Her 2nd little guy was born last night and following in his big brothers footsteps made his appearance @ 35 weeks. How do ya like them apples? Mama and baby are fantastic, she looks and feels great and baby Daniel who weighed in @ 6lbs 1 oz 18 in is nursing like a champ!! Ah... maybe some socks are in order? ;-)

Sock Silly!!

Stitchin' and Bitchin' at my place on Saturday! The girls brought it from Borders to me since I'm the lonely stranded mama lately.

What would my blog post be today without an Ode to Jess's awesome shirt! I laughed for like 5 minutes straight.

So my camera isn't broken after all... thanks to DP!! Muah!

As I mentioned before, I sort of took a little detour and went into a bit of a sock frenzy since my friend gave me her pattern to try out. I started out working on socks in the adult size for my DD ( since she wears the SAME SIZE AS ME!! ) using Knits Picks merino sock yarn. Theeeeeeen...

I decided I wanted to try it in the Toddler size. So I started knitting a pair for a friends son using some black and white Lion Wool that I had on hand for another project LOL! I finished the one (pictured here on my 9 mo dd -it's a tad large but oh well, gets the point accross) and started doing the second one trying to use a new techneque for weaving in the color changes as I go but apparently "Go with whatcha know" should be my motto. Needless to say it didn't work out too well and I ended up taking it all out. Well, that pissed me off so I then decided I should start a NEW pair in a DIFFERENT size. LOL! Soooooooooooooooo...

I moved on to the infant size. Yes people, I'm feeling a little indecisive these days ;-) I grabbed the ball of left over Lorna's Laces Merino that I had used for Na'omi's Apron Top and started whipping 'em up. I was able to get them done in no time since they were so small. the first of the pair was finished last night and I did the other one this morning. They came out so adorable!! I love this pattern! I opted for the alternate toe choice on this pair. The first one I finished ( black and white) used the kitchener stitch to graft the toe closed. I really like the way the alternate toe pattern came out.

Damn Camera!!!

Looks like my trusty ( piece of junk) camera has crapped the bed. I'm not sure officially but it's definately NOt being friendly at the moment!! For some reason it's saying I have no memory despite the fact that there's only 16 pics on it. Grrrr.

I wanted to post pics of some of the things I have in progress that I talked about in my last post. But since I can't I'll just talk about what I'm up to.

I'm super excited because a friend of mine is opening a new childrens shop in Niantic CT called Peacock Organics and she has asked me to knit up a bunch of baby and kiddos socks to sell there! I'm going to try and come up with a pattern based on some ideas I have- we'll see how that goes LOL! I also need to find the perfect organic yarn to use for this most special project. Let the hunt begin...

Speaking of kids socks, instead of working on any of the previously mentioned half finished projects I decided to make a smaller version of my friend Indigo's tube sock pattern. I LOVE how it turned out!! I've been working on socks for myself out of it but took a break to make a toddler sized pair for a friends little boy. I finished one this evening. I just used some Lion Wool in Black and White creating a thick striped pattern. So freaking cute. At least I think so. I want to get a pic up and will asap.

We'll see what tommorrow holds... not sure what I feel like working on. I'll probably try to finish up the second striped sock and maybe I'll continue on the shorties that are supposed to match my dd's apron top. It would be lovely if she could actually wear the whole outfit before summer's end, huh?

Blaaaaah...

Welp, I have to admit to letting life get a little crazy lately. I don't think I've picked up my needles in oh, 2 weeks now? Blah. I feel like I've forsaken my first love LOL! That all ends now though as I have a few projects in the works. I finally picked up yarn for the most adorable pattern that I got from a mama on Etsy... it's for a totally rad pair of Baby Chucks. Yep, as in Chuck Taylor's better known as Converse sneakers. Right up my alley. Major coolness factor. In other news, I'm continuing to guinea pig knit an origianl pattern from my friend ( Indigo73 on MDC) for a pair of tube socks. No Aimee, I'm not done yet LOL! Like I said I've been on a knitting time out. Not that I actually wanted to be- it just happened, kinda like life kwim? Anyhow, I'll post pics tommorrow in progress. Oh yeah and I forgot about the shorties that are sitting lonely OTN that are supposed to match the Apron Top. Oy.

Huge motivating factor for picking my projects back up... I just joined in on the July Mama/Kid MBOY swap on MDC! I totally loved the last swap and think having dd involved on this one will be awesome.

May MBOY has arrived!!!

It's here, it's here!! ( ok, not the greatest pic in the world) I came home from my Hebrew lesson this morning AFTER bringing the kiddos to school and a great big box was awaiting my arrival!! Hailing all the way from Colorado... a beautimus wad of yarn and goodies :-D At first glace I could see that it was sock yarn in a very pretty, earthy colorway of natural cream and two variations of an earthy purple. Peeking out from the very start I could see some nifty red white and blue pencils... which were for my boys,an AWESOME button that said "Knitting Is Knotty" ( that found a permanant resting place on my Green Day bag/purse/diaper-multi purpose bag LOL) as well as 2 really rad pairs of barrettes which were supposed to be for the baby to grow into but I've claimed them for myself. They go perfect with my new haircut. So emo LOL!

As I unrolled it I could feel that there was something on the yarn that was so soft! I thought it was my imagination but it wasn't.I had no idea what kind of yarn it as until I was finished... You'll have to read to the end to find out what it is :D <-------- I LOVE making smilies. Anyway, I swear it took my an hour to unravel this mass of yummy yarnage, all jokes aside. On my way through I found several little treats which included

* an adorable handmade black crystal stitch marker ( right up my alley)

* an assortment of delicious teas (Perfect Peach, Ruby Mist, Vanilla Hazelnut Yogi Tea, and Blueberry Stash tea)

* a package of Black Mountain Gold Premium Gourmet Coffee in Swiss Chocolate Almond flavor!!! ( I'm putting that in the french press when the kids go night night)

* an herbal bath tea called Heavenly from Bath Creations by Tiffany (for my dd)

* some Kookaburra wool wash ( which came right on time considering I just washed my woolies and only have enough for like one more washing!)

*and last but not least some yuuuuuummy Creme Savers candy that I can't stop eating. G-d these things are addicting!! Especially the toffee creme ones, yikes.

Sooooo I was right about feeling something soft and different about this yarn. Call me out of the loop but I have never heard of it before but I know I'm going to LOVE this stuff. It's Austermann Step and it has Aloe Vera and Jojoba oil in it. This gets rave reviews online so I can't wait to give it a shot! Here's somewhat of a close up shot so you can see the colors better. My camera isn't the greatest there ever was kwim? From spying around online I believe the colorway is called Holz? Now to find the perfect pattern... A HUGE thank you to the thoughtful mama who put this together for me, Coloradomama aka Misty!! What a treat... did I mention I'm working on Creme Saver #6?

Mosaic Moon and Manos Goodness!

This is the prime example as to why I picked the name I did for my Blog LOL! I'm particular proud of these capri's turned longies... by accident. They were my first pair which I knitted up at the end of this winter. Na'omi has only worn them a few times and we've determined that we'll be saving them for the fall ;-) Much too long but super cool, at least *I* think so. I used Manos Del Uraguay for both colors in a thick and thin. No particular pattern for the longies but I DID find the pattern for the cute ruffle in a thread on MDC ;-)

I recently finished this pair of ACTUAL capri's using Mosaic Moon organic BFL in the Seagarden colorway. Yuuuuuum. These are my favorites right now and I swear she wears them twice a week LOL! Again, no particular pattern and I used the same ruffle with the eyelets to string something through. On the punk rock pink and black pair I just crocheted ( did I spell that right??) a chain and weaved it through. But on this pair I still haven't been able to find just the right ribbon. I think I want something satinish in that beautiful teel color.

In other knitting news, I am finally joining the MDC Knitting Blogring!! I've wanted to for a long time but I didn't have a blog specifically geared toward yarn crafting. I had a LiveJournal which was a mish mash of everything. Now I have a blog exclusively dedicated to "THE craft" and I am officially cool. I think.

LTK Apron Top !!

I FINALLY broke down and actually bought the patterm LOL! I've been wanting to do this one for sooooo long. After visiting the Little Turtle Knits site for , oh I don't know, the millionth time I decided to buy it and whip it up. I got the perfect yarn for it from a friend who was off loading some major over stash and it had been sitting lonely for some time. It's not done in itr, I just like to use my circs when knitting flat anyway :-) Here it is in progress.

I used Lorna's Laces Superwash 100% Merino Wool in the Circus colorway. This picture really doesn't do it justice. It's a reeeeeally pretty yarn. Just perfect for a summer outfit for a cute little girl who JUST STARTED TO CRAWL TODAY!!! But I digress... Here's the finished product on my sweet little Na'omi who's 8 1/2 months old along with her big sister Jaclyn (10) who's helping Miss Na'omi pose ;-)

I've started a pair of bottoms to match and I think I may have enough yarn to knit up a matching top for my niece Brianna who is 1yo.

I'm still waiting on my MBOY from the MDC swap... any day now!!! I'm biting my nails with excitement!!! In the meantime, I picked up another adorable pattern that I just happened upon through a thread at MDC in the Yarn Crafts forum. It's a pattern from a mama on Etsy for a pair of baby "Chucks" as in Chuck Taylors aka Converse! More on those soon as I need to go find some yarn for them heheheheh. Yet another excuse to buy more.

Magic Ball of Yarn Swap- May 2007

I finally recieved the yarn I ordered for the MBOY swap on MDC ( Mothering.com). This is my first time joining in after seeing two friends give it a go. It's been so much fun collecting little treasures to go in my ball. For those of you that have absolutely NO freaking idea what I'm talking about... allow me to explain :-)

a MBOY is a yummy skein of whatever yarn you choose that you purchase with the intention of wrapping goodies up in for someone else. We are each given a secret swap partner and from there we look at her wish list and stalk her on the net etc. to find out what her interests/personality are like so we can tailor the treasures to a perfect fit. You ship it off and wait for your to arrive! I can't WAIT for mine.

Here's the teaser pic that I posted at the forum. This isn't the actual yarn that I bought to give to my mama. This is the secondary one I used to wrap the "big bang" in as well as all the goodies. I'm so stoked. I totally wanted to keep the yarn inside. It's seriously so sickeningly unbelieveable. The one on the outside is great too and I have 2 of those for me here :-) that one is Manos Del Uruguay. I can't say the other juuuuuuust in case she sees this.

I'll be posting what I get from my swap partner as soon as it arrives!!!

I Did It!!

Welp... I finally created a knitting blog! Being a mother to 4 children, it shouldn't surprise you that I have no time to post any pictures of my knitted items or get started beyond this post LOL!! I'm really looking forward though, to sharing my newest obsession with any and all who want to peek.
